Stuart Seddon of Vistage Group 9

Stuart Seddon of Vistage Group 9

Presented with his ten year award by Richard Ward

Chairman of Vistage 9 & Key 207

“I would like to thank Vistage for my commemorative plaque and gift to mark my 10 years as a member.  Over the decade I have been through many highs and lows and lots of middling the bat along the way.  My Vistage group and chair have helped me throughout with independent confidential advice.

The quality of the chairperson is crucial to a loyal, functioning group.  I have been particularly impressed with my two chairmen

Ultimately I am still a member because the organisation and also my particular group are valuable to me personally and my business commercially.”

About Seddon’s

John and George Seddon first set up the business in 1897, with the registration of the Stoke-on-Trent organisation in 1957.  They operate throughout the country, with over 110 years of experience in regeneration, development, construction and maintenance.  The Seddon Group has a turnover in excess of £240M, employing 1,700 people.

Stuart is a Director of Seddon Group Limited and Chairman/Managing Director of four of its subsidiary companies.  He was the first member of the fourth generation of the Seddon family to join the family business in 1977 at the age of 16 as an Apprentice Bricklayer.

After completing his Apprenticeship, Stuart spent seven years in contract management as a Site Foreman, managing a number of differing sites from new build fixed price contracts to day to day maintenance contracts.  In 1985/1986 he managed an acquisition the company had made and completed the 87 contracts that came with that business.

In 1987, Stuart became Director of J & S Seddon Limited and formed J & S Seddon (Painting) Limited and J & S Seddon (Building) Limited as separate companies in 1990.

Stuart has also taken the roles of President of the Painting and Decorating Federation, President of the National Federation of Builders Local Association and Director of the Building Safety Group.  He has also previously been President of the Painting and Decorating Association and is still an Executive Council Member.

In his spare time, Stuart enjoys golf and playing the guitar (quite good at one, not so good at the other…..)

From the earliest days, a commitment to training has been a central part of J & S Seddon Limited’s philosophy.  The company has operated a dedicated apprentice training scheme since the 1940’s which has been fundamental to the growth and success of the business overall. The professions are also catered for, with some 30 trainees annually sponsored through university and college in subjects such as Quantity Surveying.

Aside from their amazing business, Seddons actively support many community-based projects across the UK; from sponsoring a suite at Stoke City Football Club, numerous school and college activities, to kit for Warsash Wasps all-girls football team.  One of their major sponsorships is the The Christie Charity, which allows the team to research and develop The Magic Bullets (targeted therapy).  These are radiolabelled antibodies and the therapy is called radioimmunotherapy.  The North Staffs Heart Committee have also benefited from Seddon’s, with amongst other support, a defibrillator.

All monies raised by Seddon Group employees from their involvement in sporting events around the year will be matched pound for pound by Seddon Group.
